Thanks Dennis. I wish I knew how to make the sun not so "sunny" though in these photos. Is there a filter do you know?

hmmm there are circular polarizers that would help some...graduated neutral density filters would help but they're a bit of a pain in the arse to use. the easiest is to do multible exposures and merge them either to a blend or an HDR. photomatix is a cheap fairly intuitive program to use. the latest photoshop rocks but it's rather complicated to a simple peep like me.

Everybody's talkin' bout HDR. Sounds too complex for me.
Do you mean take exactly the same photo at different exposures and overlay them in PS3?
I'd have to get a tripod I think. I wiggle and woggle and wander and veer......

the woggling would get you for sure. A good tripod is your friend. I shoot less and less without one each outing. the tripod has a way of making me think about my composition more. a mental thing but it works.

and yep usually three shots or so of the same image at different shutter speeds. many cameras have a "bracket" setting where the camera will shoot the three shots for you almost all at once. I'm learning on photomatix and then think I will take it to PS3. I struggle with it. I use lightroom and love it but it won't do merges. there is a lightroom add on for photmatix that had been fairly simple so far.

I have a thing called...hmmm...Adobe Bridge (had to go look for its name)
I am too quicksilver for that stuff. A sad statement of my essential frivolity.

I might try a tripod. Just another thing to lug.
I want a camera implanted in the palm of my hand that connects to my thought processes and then I can bluetooth the resulting image to my computer or a canvas.
That's what I want. (And a TARDIS)
You are so kind to help!

Wouldn't it be wonderful. Then I would also have a jetpropelled backpack to zoom up and look at everything like a bird.
